The new social equipment in Argentona includes the construction of a new pavilion with multipurpose rooms and the rehabilitation of the old slaughterhouse. The proposal envisages the construction of several flexible spaces that can be divided to provide users with maximum freedom according to their needs. The new building is located perpendicular to the existing building, generating a shared outdoor public space between them. As it is a heritage-listed building, it is important to respect the volume and characteristics of the current building, a reflection of the historical-artistic heritage. In this sense, the general appearance of the building is respected, such as the openings, the roof and the main structure. It is sought to reopen blocked openings to generate more permeability towards the common outdoor space.
The new social equipment of Argentona proposes another type of constructive solutions with respect to the existing one but obtaining values and sustainability criteria of the same magnitude and incidence. In this sense, a solid base of foundations is proposed that will allow the support of the light structure. On top of the foundation layer, a structure of CLT walls and slabs is proposed. In the case of the facade, an exterior finish of sheet steel (choose the type of profile) with a breathable sheet and rock wool insulation is suggested. In a Mediterranean climate like Argentona, access to maximum solar radiation in winter is the priority strategy to reduce energy demand, but also the fact of protecting-seducing solar radiation during the summer periods. In this sense, the south orientation is the one that best answers this requirement and at the same time the one that allows you to protect yourself from the sun in the summer more easily since the radiation is more vertical.
At the same time, it also guarantees adequate natural lighting. In this sense, it is important to place architectural elements of solar protection such as overhangs or blinds that allow radiation inside in winter but also protection in summer.
