The traditional cabins
The cabins are one of the characteristic elements of popular architecture. Its main function was to give shelter to the peasant and the animal, to guard against inclement weather when they were in the field and also to store tools and the daily harvest. These constructions are, above all, of modern and contemporary times.
Most of them today are in disuse, since, with modern agricultural techniques, they have lost their initial functionality. This has caused them to enter a phase of inexorable destruction, especially the tiles, many have been removed and only the walls remain.
The dry stone construction technique consists of placing, combining and fitting stones, more or less worked and of different sizes, without any other material that unites them. This ancestral art typical of the Catalan rural landscape comprises the material, a precise technique and skill, that is, the construction and the capacity of the builder.
