Re-habitar

We turn training into a tool for transformation through integration, the rehabilitation of buildings and the creation of social housing.

Re-habitar is a program promoted by Foment de Ciutat, SA, within the framework of the Barcelona Neighborhood Plan, which turns training into a tool for social transformation. Developed by Laboqueria Arquitectura, Impulsem and La Traginera, the project provides occupational training, job placement and sustainable rehabilitation to respond to two of the city’s main challenges: the lack of affordable housing and the need to generate job opportunities for people in vulnerable situations.

The project offers practical training specialized in home renovation, with itineraries of installations and masonry, plastering and painting, developed in real environments and oriented to the current needs of the construction and renovation sector.

The training culminates with participation in the rehabilitation of a multi-family building on Calle Om, in the Raval neighborhood, destined to become social housing. In this way, the participating people not only acquire a profession and work experience, but also contribute directly to creating new decent housing for the neighborhood.

The project starts from a comprehensive look at the rehabilitation: taking advantage of the existing buildings as a more sustainable alternative to new construction, reducing the consumption of resources, preserving the built heritage and improving living conditions. Re-inhabiting shows that rehabilitating is also a way of building the future.

The objective is to generate a positive social and environmental impact that lasts over time, connecting training, occupation and access to housing through a rehabilitation model that puts people and the neighborhood at the center.
