Protecting Rural Catalonia

La Vanguardia

The Parliament of Catalonia has approved the Statute of Rural Municipalities, a law that recognizes the value of small villages and seeks to curb their depopulation through concrete measures such as tax incentives, bureaucratic simplification, and urban planning support tailored to their specific needs.

According to an article published in La Vanguardia on July 17, 2025, this legislation will benefit 608 rural municipalities, acknowledging the need for a differentiated approach to preserve the territory and rural life.

At Laboqueria Arquitectura, we celebrate this progress as an institutional endorsement of the work we’ve been doing for years through community-driven, awareness-raising, and educational processes linked to the rural world—such as Repoblem, Territori de Vincles, and Ruralitats Comunitàries.

Activating existing heritage, building connections, promoting new ways of inhabiting, and supporting local transformations are part of the path we walk alongside rural communities.

This new legal framework is one more step toward that shared horizon.

We remain committed to architecture with a positive impact, rooted in the territory and centered on people.
